Metro speaks out on R554
Since the beginning of the year 54 accidents have been reported on the R554.
Wilfred Kgasago, Chief Superintendent and spokesman for the EMPD gave an accident report regarding the accidents on the R554 since January 1, 2014 until August 27.
Kgasago reported that in this time, there have been 54 accidents, most of which happened on the intersection of R554 and R23.
The Addie reported on the truck overturning on a sharp bend in the road and it was alleged that there were five trucks in one week that overturned, but Kgasago says that only one truck was reported to have overturned there.
“According to the Accident Bureau only one vehicle overturned at the corner of Springs and Lemmer Road due to oil on the road,” says Kgasago.
He also says that this road is the main route between Springs and Alberton and Heavy Motor Vehicles make use of this road on a daily basis.
“The Speed Unit periodically does speed law enforcement on the R554,” says Kgasago.
