Parents fed up with manholes

Three manholes in Rutland Street behind Protea School is a pain for parents.

Stephni van der Hoven, one of the parents, says the manholes have already caused her vehicle extensive damage of around R8 000.

“I swerved a little out of the way when a child ran across the road and I drove over one of these manholes,” she says adding “I had to replace the entire wheel and the mag and I wasn’t even driving fast because it is a school,” she says.

Two of the manholes are covered with cement lids that are too big and stand out at an angle while the third is barely covered by a cement lid that is too small and when driven over, shoots up at the vehicle.

Stephni says this could also be dangerous to the children walking across the street who may not immediately see the hole.

She has apparently contacted Ekurhuleni but did not get any satisfaction.
