Alleged abuse parents cry in court

The court case of the man dubbed the Springs Monster and his wife has been postponed to May 18 to 29 when they will appear in the High Court in Delmas.

The court case of the parents who were arrested in May and June respectively for allegedly abusing their five children in the Springs home  was postponed to be heard in the High Court in Delmas.

The parents briefly appeared in the Springs Regional Court this morning (Friday) before regional magistrate Roy le Roux who postponed the case to May 18 to 29.

Neither was asked to plead.

The man remains in custody and the woman’s bail of R2 000 was extended.

The two stood close to each other in the dock while le Roux got the court papers ready.

The man kissed his wife’s hand upon parting and both cried when the man took the steps back to the cells.

These tears outraged the community members who had been attending the court case since both parents appeared in court.

They felt the parents should have shed these tears when their children were being psychologically hurt and physically injured.

Gcobani Lungu appeared on behalf of the state, Christiaan Swart on behalf of the man and Pieter van Niekerk on behalf of the woman.

Some of the stories on this case:
