Due to fear for her and her family’s safety the woman wishes to stay anonymous but says she was woken by her dogs at 5.20am, and upon opening the front door to let them out, she was surprised to see a man pointing a gun at her.
She says she closed the door in a hurry and luckily the dogs never left the house.
It was during this time that the alleged robber fired a shot.
The bullet went through the door, missed her and hit the wall behind her.
She immediately ran to the community radio and called for help.
Ramphora says the neighbour allegedly shouted at the alleged robbers who ran to the fence, jumped over it and ran away.
Liezl Oosthuizen, chairman of the Dal Fouche Community Association (DFCA), says when they heard the women’s distress call over the community radio, the neighbours that were part of the network informed each other in what direction the alleged robber was running.
This communication enabled the DFCA patrolling vehicle to find out where the man was.
While running the man got rid of his jacket, hat and the firearm which were retrieved by the DFCA members.
It is believed members of the DFCA also found three cellphones on the alleged robber.
Oosthuizen claims they also retrieved another cellphone on the sidewalk where the alleged robbers have cut the electric fence to gain entry to the property.
According to Oozthuizen they managed to follow one alleged robber, but the other two got away.
Ramphora confirms that only one of the alleged robbers was arrested.
He says upon further investigation, they found the domestic worker to be an accomplice to the attempted robber.
“When she arrived at work at 8am, she was arrested and it is believed she admitted her involvement with the three alleged robbers.”
Ramphora says she will be charged as an accomplice to attempted robbery and attempted murder.
The domestic worker and the robber will appear in court soon.
