Cut bolts cause valve leak

The valve at the leaking water pipe in Nigel Road has been replaced.

About a month ago the leaking water pipe was reported to the metro and its workers replaced the valve.

Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro, says not long after it was replaced, the metro discovered the bolts were cut and the pipe started leaking again.

“We suspect someone was trying to steal the valve,” he adds.

The metro has placed the bolts as a temporary measure and will start the process of replacing the whole valve soon.

The Addie visited the site, which is directly next to the Selection Park Tennis Club, and found some of the bolts missing.

Hans Duvenhage, a Selection Park resident, is happy no water is being wasted.

He claims the valves and bolts will all be stolen in due time and the metro should rather have blocked the pipe off instead of fixing it, as it is of no use to anyone.
