Clean gardens for Christmas

Workers of the Lungile Mtshali Community Development Project were cleaning the gardens in front of the Springs Civic Centre last Thursday.

Bongiwe Malandela, the expanded public works programme coordinator, says they were cleaning the area around the centre to look “nice” for Christmas.

Malandela says this project allows them to get directly involved in the cleaning of Springs and surrounding areas and teaches them skills and creates jobs.

Malandela says she is proud to be part of this project.

This project is part of the mayor Mondli Gungubele’s ward-based project which is aimed at creating jobs and fighting poverty.

The mayor said in a previous statement, “The city will continue allocating R1-million per ward for the next three financial years, starting this year.”

Through this project more than 3 000 jobs have been created in Ekurhuleni thus far.

Lungile Mtshali was a former councillor of Ekurhuleni, who died in 2010.

She was a member of the mayoral committee for finance and was known to be a servant of the people who was always at the forefront of the community’s needs.
