Investigation on principal not continued

The investigation on Frans Styger, principal of Hoërskool Hugenote, have ended.

Allegations were made against Styger following an exposé on the MNet programme Carte Blanche in September, implicating him in a gold trading scam.

The Addie reported on the allegations shortly after the broadcast and followed the investigation (Springs Advertiser, September 16).

The allegations were based on Carte Blanche’s broadcast of a voice clip where Styger allegedly agreed to sell illegal gold if he was included in the deal.

Phumla Sekhonyane, spokesman of Gauteng Department of Education, says the department initiated an investigation into the matter following the exposé.

The department called on anyone who had information on the matter to come forward or submit written and sworn statements.

“On the basis that there was no information submitted the investigation could not continue,” she says.

She adds that the department remains committed to clean governance and professional conduct of all its employees and should there be any new information on the matter we will not hesitate to investigate.
