A 34-year-old man was arrested on Monday for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Springs Police received a phone call, from a security guard at Grootvlei shaft four, about an armed man.
When they arrived on the scene, they found the suspect with the two unlicensed pistols and 32 rounds of ammunition.
Spokesman for the Springs Police, Captain Johannes Ramphora, said they are investigating the possibilities of the man being linked to a rape, and several house and business robberies which took place in the past.
The police also found a cellphone in the suspect’s pocket.
The serial number on one of the pistols was traced, and it was reported stolen in 2009 by a man in Johannesburg South.
Ramphora said they will send the firearms for ballistic testing to establish if they were used in any crimes.
The man was taken to the Springs Police cells where he will remain until his first court appearance.
