Sewage flows into house, yard
The metro says stones and rocks caused a blockage in the main sewer line.
A family living on the lowest point in their street in the Grootvlei Estates could sigh with relief after a problem with their neighbours’ stinky sewage water running into their garden was resolved.
Ela and Nicole du Toit, after numerous calls and requests, had the sewage flow into their garden stopped last Thursday.
At times some of the water pushed up into their toilet.
This relief came after the du Toits have been reporting this maintenance problem since December and had to live with the stench and rotten water all the time.
Because their house is the lowest in their street, their own and sewage from neighbours flowed across the length of their yard to a manhole in the corner of their yard where the water dammed up.
Due to this sewage water in the yard they could not use the washing line and their grass became soggy and muddy.
Themba Gadebe, spokesman of Ekurhuleni metro says the metro has been dealing with this blocked main sewer pipe for some time.
He says unblocking this sewage pipe by using manned rods was unsuccessful and a combination jetting truck could also not unblock it.
Only after several inspections it was revealed that there were stones and rocks in the main sewer line and the problem was solved when these were removed.
Gadebe adds the metro will also clean-up the du Toits’ yard.
