Barries Barnard from the Daggafontein Extension Two CPF showed the Addie where a recently flattened mine heap in Daggafontein has drawn the attention of more illegal miners.
“The mine was flattened about two months ago,” he says.
He explains that there was already illegal mining activity in the area in 2006.
Barnard says nothing is being done, despite the police station being located only a short distance away.
He fears that the safety of the residents in the area may be compromised due to the illegal miners constantly being at the site.
The Addie is awaiting comment from the Ekurhuleni Metro.
