Narrow escape
A motor vehicle landed on a section of railway track last Tuesday (April 28), near Gold Street, New Era, and was struck by an oncoming train.
It is believed the driver lost control of the vehicle while driving along Industry Road.
Louis Els and Louwtjie du Toit, officials from the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD), believe the driver wasn’t aware that, turning into Gold Street, the road becomes a dead-end.
The vehicle came to a standstill on the railway track and the three occupants climbed out of the vehicle uninjured.
Els says the three were allegedly trying to move the vehicle from the tracks, when an oncoming train struck it.
The 29-year-old male driver of the vehicle was arrested for reckless and negligent driving, and was taken to the Springs police cells.
Springs police spokesman Amanda Greybe says the man briefly appeared in court last Wednesday, but the case was postponed for for further investigation.
