Workers screened for health problems
A Wellness Day was held on Friday at the McCain Foods factory in Nuffield.
“Most of the workers’ time is spent on duty and they cannot find time to visit a doctor,” says Sister Thabita Masemola, who works at the factory.
The workers received the day off to be tested for various ailments such as high blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes.
Doctors were also on site to conduct Pap smears and prostate screenings.
“If there are test results we are concerned about, the worker will have to come for a review and we discuss diet and lifestyle modifications with them,” says Thabitha.
If the problem is not resolved after this, they are referred to a general practitioners for further evaluation.
There were many stalls at the event aimed at enlightening workers about the dangers of alcohol and other substance abuse.
The workers enjoyed the relaxed day with music and food.
