The cover was stolen about four months ago, and concerned members from the club initially warned motorists of the danger by placing a stick into the manhole and marking it with red tape.
This was then replaced by a cover which did not correctly fit the manhole.
Springs resident Bruce Gardner says someone from council has surely noticed there is a problem with the cover.
Ekurhuleni Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe says this manhole needs a cover of a special size.
The metro has ordered one for this manhole, and have in the interim, placed danger tape around it so the manhole is visible to road users.
“Once we receive the cover, we will do the replacement,” he says.
He claims thieves steal the covers.
