Ekurhuleni inaugurates new chief

Bafana Mahlabe was inaugurated as the EMPD's chief of police at the Germiston Civic Centre on Thursday.

The ceremony was officiated by Gauteng Police commissioner, Lieut-Gen Lesetja Mothiba, who oversaw the signing of the oath office by Mahlabe.

Ekurhuleni mayor Mondli Gungubele congratulated Mahlabe and welcomed his appointment and the beginning of a new chapter for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department.

“I’m really humbled for this opportunity and invite the citizens of Ekurhuleni to judge me by my work,” says Mahlabe.

“My 100 days officially start now, and to criminals, you have no option but to surrender as I’m launching Operation Bumper to Bumper.

“I’m taking back the streets and will leave no stone unturned.”
