Family forced to bathe in swimming pool

Dal Fouche residents are without water at least twice a week and are fed up with the Ekurhuleni Metro's excuses.

Willie Joubert says this has been an ongoing problem for the past 18 months.

It is an awkward time in the morning when every household has to get ready for work and parents get their children ready for school.

Joubert wants to know why the metro can’t change the time to later in the morning when most people are already at work and the children at school.

His family uses the water from the swimming pool to wash when the water is off.

“It is just not on,” he says. He is concerned about the people who do not have another option of using water and don’t understand the reason behind this.

Joubert says if it isn’t every Tuesday and Thursday it happens on a Monday as well.

According to the metro, “the water shortage problem is caused by a timer that fills up the tower”.

This timer controls the water flow to the reservoir and is faulty; therefore, the metro had to install a level control system.

In a story ‘Water problem in Dal Fouche‘, Themba Gadebe, metro spokesman, said the system was damaged by vandals and they had to revert to using the timer; however, the residents are curious to know when the problem will be solved.

Joubert says whether the metro uses a timer or a level control system it should regulate the water flow to the reservoir.

He thinks the water issue needs to be resolved as soon as possible.

Despite sending questions to the metro more than a week ago, no comment was received from them at the time of going to print.
