The officers, Louis Els and Louwtjie du Toit, were on routine patrol when they noticed a suspicious-looking man jumping over a fence.
“When we approached the suspect he jumped into the Corolla and fled the scene.
After a high speed chase to Kingsway Informal Settlement, the Corolla suddenly stopped and three people were seen jumping from the vehicle.
They disappeared between the houses.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the car had false number plates.
Els says the vehicle was reported stolen in Kwaggafontein, Mpumalanga, in March.
It was recovered and taken to the Springs EMPD offices, from where it will be handed over to the Van Ryn Deep Vehicle Theft Unit, in Benoni, for further investigation.
No arrests have been made.
