The two robbers, one armed with a gun and the other with a knife, gained entry into the house by breaking the burglar bars at one of the windows.
Capt Johannes Ramphora, spokesman for the Springs police, says the duo asked the woman for money.
They tied her hands with a cord and put a garment in her mouth to keep her from screaming.
They then searched the house and took the woman’s handbag, containing R16 000 in cash, as well as jewellery, a gas pistol, a TV set and a DVD player.
The robbers also took three cellphones before they left the house.
The police arrived at the scene and opened a case of house robbery.
