Man (20) got himself caught after assault

Two EMPD officers arrested a 20-year-old man for robbery and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm on the corner of Fourth Avenue and Paul Kruger Highway in Geduld last Thursday (June 9).

When officers Louis Els and Louwtjie du Toit were on routine patrol in Geduld, members of the public stopped them and informed them that a man selling goods was being robbed.

Els says they were also told that a young man attacked the vendor by stabbing him with a broken beer bottle.

The officers rushed to the scene and found the suspect there.

Els claims when the suspect saw them approaching he ran away but officers gave chase and apprehended the suspect a few blocks from the scene.

The suspect was detained at Springs Police Station for robbery and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

All the stolen goods were recovered and booked in at the police station.

The suspect will appear in court soon.
