Father Christmas spoils Geduld families

Paul Krugersoord resident Sanette Joubert and the Hawley family were behind the successful Christmas party held at the Springs Rugby Club on Saturday.

The number of children attending the party has grown significantly since last year.

Robert Hawley junior says they were shocked to see 651 children arriving at the Christmas function in 2015, 151 more than the 500 they catered for.

“This year we have catered for 1 000 children and their families,” he says.

Not knowing how involved his father Robert senior was in charity before his death in December 2014, he decided to continue his father’s legacy of charity work.

He met Sanette last year and decided to get involved in her project and the rest is history.

It has now become an annual event which they believe is the biggest Christmas event in Springs.

This year Natasha ‘Jinx’ Terblanche from the Pink Pistols Bikers Group and her fellow female bikers also got involved.

Jinx says they were tasked to do the boeresport.

“It was such fun to watch the eagerness of the children when they had to participate in tug of war and had to search for a ticket with their mouths in a bowl filled with cake flour,” she says.

White faces and all, they made sure they found a ticket to receive a spot prize.

In the tug of war game, they divided the boys and girls into separate groups so that they can compete.

All participants in this event were rewarded with a leather necklace with a charm attached.

After lunch the children were spoiled by Father Christmas who arrived with Eddie van Rensburg on his beautiful Harley-Davidson converted into a red three-wheeler.

“All the children received a toiletry gift sponsored by the Pink Pistols and a sweet pack,” says Sanette.

The people involved in this successful event are grateful to the Springs Rugby Club for allowing them to use the premises.

“This annual event is growing and we would like to expand to other towns on the East Rand,” says Sanette.
