Refuse removal back on schedule

Following numerous reports about the backlog on refuse removal services in Springs, the metro has given this comment.

Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe says there is currently no backlog on service delivery.

“Waste removal is back on schedule,” he says.

The metro introduced the wheelie bin system to have better control over refuse removal.

Gadebe says residents need to determine the number of bins needed for the volume of refuse produced per week.

“One 240 litre bin is equal to three black refuse bags,” he says.

He suggests residents can also recycle their waste and made compost of green waste to minimise the waste put out for collection.

The metro has made the mini disposal sites to be available for the disposal of garden refuse free of charge.

According to Selection Park resident Honey Eseh they had to pay someone to collect all the extra refuse bags which were not collected.

Gadebe says no extra bags are actually allowed.

“However, in the event of backlogs an extra bag may be allowed but should not be the norm,” says Gadebe.
