Metro monitors Dal Fouche water issues

The Dal Fouche water crisis that has been plaguing residents for many years is due to a failing booster pump, according to the Ekurhuleni Metro.

Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro, says the problem is due to the failure of the Rietfontein booster pump, which pumps water to the Dal Fouche tower.

“There have been a number of challenges which were experienced with the Rietfontein Pump Station which feeds to the tower in Dal Fouche,” he says.

“We have also had vandalism where the telemetry system was destroyed by vandals, together with other equipment.”

Gadebe adds that the biggest problem, which made the complications persist for a long period of time, was the communication between the tower and the pumps.

“At some stages, we even had to operate on a timer while awaiting the procurement of telemetry.

“The situation is being monitored with assistance from Erwat.

“Erwat has been given full responsibility for reservoirs and water booster pumps by the water and sanitation department.”

The pump station is currently operational and is automated.
