SCF stands together for safe environment
Community steps in to clean the area behind two schools.
People wearing red and blue T-shirts were seen cleaning the open area opposite Twelve and Dump streets, CBD on Friday.
The invite to assist with the clean-up of this area, was open to principals, the Springs police, security companies, politicians, teachers, pastors, parents and learners.
This was part of the Springs Community Forum’s (SCF) project with the slogan of “Let’s stand together for a safe and clean schooling environment for all our children in Springs.”
People were asked to bring with them two black bags, a rake or a broom.
Rene Theron, principal of Werda Primary School says SCF aims to serve the community.
“We also promote cooking, education and support to communities, educating staff and learners to promote safe school environments,” she says.
A large heap of black bags were piled up behind Werda Primary School’s sports grounds that border on the open field.
Loading the black bags into a bin were Sarel Vermaak and Jason Coen.
They were contracted from a local waste management business to remove the refuse.
Vermaak says he is quite impressed with the work done by these volunteers.
“It is good to know people still care for their community,” he says.
