Metro workers fix burst pipe fast
Metro's prompt reaction saved a lot of clean water.
Metro workers were seen working around the clock to fix a burst pipe in Welgedacht Road, CBD on Friday and Saturday.
On Friday morning, water was seen streaming from a manhole and running down Welgedacht Road.
The metro was informed of this by the Addie and in no time they arrived to find the fault.
According to metro workers on site, the cause of the leak was a burst pipe.
Late Friday afternoon workers were still on the scene and they managed to stop the leak by closing the main water pipe.
On Saturday they replaced the burst pipe, but the hole was still not closed by Monday morning.
Springs resident Magda Pretorius, who drives regularly along Welgedacht Road, says she is impressed with the prompt response from the metro.
However, she wonders how long it will take them to close the hole and put back the manhole cover.
“Luckily the area is fenced off; therefore, no one will fall into the open hole,” she says.
No comment was received from the metro at the time of going to print.
