Woman (20) airlifted to hospital
An accident in Ermelo Road, Casseldale saw 15 people being injured.
After a serious accident in Casseldale, a 20-year-old woman, with several severe injuries to her body, had to be airlifted to a specialised trauma unit at a nearby hospital on Tuesday morning.
Netcare911 received the call at 7.07am and when they arrived at the Ermelo Road and Victoria Street in Casseldale intersection they found 15 people injured in a collision between three vehicles and a minibus taxi.
According to Nick Dollman, a Netcare911 spokesperson, the woman who sustained serious injuries was placed on a ventilator at the scene before she was airlifted by the Netcare 911 emergency helicopter to a nearby hospital.
Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) were on the scene as well as Netcare 911 and other ambulance services.
Casseldale CPF and Strubenvale CPF members offered their assistance on the scene in redirecting the traffic.
Netcare911 paramedics, as well as other paramedics, tended to the 15 injured people on the scene.
Dollman says advanced life support paramedics treated another woman, who also sustained serious injuries, at the scene.
She was transported to a nearby hospital by Maponya Ambulance Services.
DEMS spokesperson, Daine Jones says 13 people sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate and were transported by ambulances to different hospitals for treatment.
“The cause of the accident is unknown and the police will investigate,” he says.
