Rand Water confirmed a leaking water pipe in Ermelo Road, Casseldale had recently been fixed.
According to media spokesperson, Justice Mohale, the leak was on a L13 steel pipeline, which is sleeved with a high density Polyethlene (HDPE) pipe.
“The cascade clamp of the HDPE joint was worn out which caused the leakage,” he says.
Rand Water technical workers pinpointed the leak on September 14, and immediately started repairing the pipeline.
Mohale says the process of repairing the leak was delayed because the workers had to demolish the existing concrete encasement and replace it with a new cascade clamp.
The new clamp was fitted on Tuesday.
He also confirmed they had not received any report about consumers experiencing water supply shortages in the area.
“The joint encased i concrete on Wednesday and excavation was back-filled the next day,” says Mohale.
Casseldale resident Antonie Smut, who reported the leak, expressed his appreciation to Rand Water who eventually came to fix the leak which had been there for three months.
The leak was fixed and the hole was covered up on Thursday.
He was surprised, however, to notice the workers filled the hole but didn’t level it off.
“The tree roots, which were chopped off by the workers when digging the hole, were left protruding from the hole after it was filled.
“This could pose a danger for pedestrians,” says Smuts.
