Awendgloed benefit from Guinness Book of Record collection
Awendgloed residents receive hygiene parcels from an NGO Touched by Grace.
A local non-profit organisation Touched by Grace recently received hygiene parcels from a real estate company in Benoni and Boksburg’s Guinness Book of Record collection.
The real estate agency broke the previous record of 20 000 by collecting 1 221 sanitary hygiene units more over a period of two days.
The parcels for the underprivileged included toothpaste, soap, toothbrush and other toiletries which they distributed to 30 certified NGOs.
A division of Touched by Grace, Matured Youth, was one of the beneficiaries.
“We were absolutely amazed to be part of this historic record,” says Leonie Cronjé, director of Touched by Grace.
Their committee recently decided to include Awendgloed residents in their Matured Youth project.
Cronjé says just to see their appreciation when they received these parcels was fulfilling enough.
“We do hope they feel special as one of the beneficiaries of the Guinness Book of Record,” she says.
The 60 Awendgloed residents loved the idea of being called Matured Youth instead of elderly people.
Touched by Grace will continue to support the residents of Awengloed in the future.
Trudie Scheepers from Awendgloed says the residents were overwhelmed with the gesture.
“We appreciate the work done by Cronjé and her team and would like to thank them as well as the real estate agency for the generous donation,” she says.
Confirmation of the record from the Guinness authority on world records could not be confirmed at the time of going to print.
