New reservoir in Persida planned for 2018
Three Springs suburbs will soon benefit from a new reservoir.
Persida, Welgedacht and Bakerton can look forward to 2018 when the municipality will build a 7.5-megalitre reservoir.
The new reservoir will be built next to the old reservoir situated in Stoffberg Road, Persida.
This was according to metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe who reported the construction of the new reservoir is due to commence in 2018.
In June he also reported the design and tender documents have been completed and submitted for approval to the Bid Specification Committee (BSC) by the end of July.
Although the design was completed long ago, the metro failed to comment on whether the documents have been approved by the BSC.
The project, which will take 12 months to complete, is part of the metro’s plan for the 2017/2018 financial year.
According to Gadebe, the installation of a 10km parallel bulk main from Rand Water will complement the new reservoir.
Persida resident David Cross says the metro experienced a few hiccups in the past with the installation of the new pipeline due to budget constraints, but they still managed to finish construction in February.
“I am impressed with the metro’s plan for a new reservoir as the three suburbs will only benefit from the 7.5-megalitre reservoir.”
He claims the same contractors who are building the new reservoir in eTwatwa, will build the Persida reservoir.
“With workers present during construction, maybe the metro will replace all the manhole covers which were stolen over the past few months.
“Proper security will also help to prevent theft,” says Cross.
At the time of publishing, the metro failed to comment on questions sent to them more than a week ago.
