Woman in stable condition after crash involving a truck
Young woman are still in hospital and under sedation after a crash with a truck.
Tragedy struck when Anzel Bouwer’s vehicle collided with a truck in Zig Zag Road, CBD on Tuesday.
She was airlifted to the Netcare Union Hospital, Alberton to receive emergency care at the specialised trauma unit.
Anzel has sustained multiple injuries to the right-hand side of her body as well as several lacerations to the head.
When paramedics arrived at the scene at 7.10am, Anzel was in a coma, classified as Glasco coma scale eight of 15.

The scale is used to assess patients in a coma and the initial score correlates with the severity of brain injury and prognosis.
According to Debbie, mother of Anzel, patients with scores of three to eight are usually said to be in a coma.
“The doctors decided to keep Anzel under sedation due to the head injuries she sustained,” she says.
Anzel suffered serious injuries to her right arm, which were already treated by a plastic surgeon but further surgery is required at a later stage.
Debbie says her daughter underwent a three-hour operation and the wounds to her head, leg and arm were treated on Tuesday.
“She has a fractured femur (thigh bone) and screws were inserted in-between her hip and knee,” says Debbie.
Anzel also suffered a fractured ankle which will be treated when the swelling had gone down and after she recovered sufficiently.
Her daughter is still under sedation after the crash.
She went on to say sedation has been minimised over a period of 48 to 72 hours to establish if Anzel has suffered any damage to the brain due to a lack of oxygen at the time of the accident.
“My daughter needs to undergo another operation to her broken ankle, but the doctors are satisfied with her progress taking into account the extent of her injuries,” says Debbie.
