Knights of da Gama Council 20 of Springs hosts beer festival

Fun at beer festival held to mark end of thanksgiving.

Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church parishioners and friends came together to enjoy a Thanksgiving Beer Festival on Sunday.

Father Lewis Tsuro, the parish priest, says the church had decided to combine it with their annual Harvest festival.

“We linked the ceremonies to the conclusion of the 2017 Fatima and Dominican Centenary celebrations,” he says.

On May 27, Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Springs was the recipient of the travelling statue of Our Lady of Fátima, which arrived from Portugal.

The celebrations marked 100 years since Our Lady of Fátima appeared to three children in the middle of World War II, on May 13, 1917.

The guests enjoyed Portuguese chicken, espatadas and delicious cakes which were on sale.

Whilst the adults tasted a selection of craft beers, the children enjoyed the mechanical bull, jumping castle, pop corn and candy floss.

Zanele Jiya thoroughly enjoyed the mechanical bull ride

“It was my first ride – I always wanted to do that so it was great fun,” she says.

Barbara-Ann Day from the church says it was a fitting end to a busy year.

Knights of da Gama Council 20 Springs, a South African brotherhood of Catholic gentlemen, organised the Beerfest.
