Ekurhuleni East SAPS and CPF honoured

Members of the Springs police and CPF did well during the annual SAPS Provincial Prestige Excellence Awards ceremony, which was held in the Thabong Wedding and Conference Centre in Brakpan on Friday.

SAPS and CPF members were rewarded for their outstanding service in several categories.

Police support service and administrative staff were also recognised for going the extra mile in the fight against crime.

“We appreciate their assistance in ensuring that communities in their respective policing precincts received the best service during the 2016/17 financial year,” says SAPS spokesperson, Capt Johannes Ramphora.

The prestigious event saw WO Wynand du Toit announced as the best visible policing (Vispol) member of the year.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, du Toit couldn’t attend the event and his commander Col Doctor Mthimkulu received the award on his behalf.

Mthimkulu also received an award for the best Vispol officer of the year.

The award for best detective officer of the year went to Lt Col Barend Groenewald, while Capt Dewie van Deventer received the award for best detective trio task team officer of the year.

Capt Zinhle Zhandu received the award for best support officer of the year, while Celia Prins was named runner-up in the category.

Lindiwe Sithebe was named runner-up for the best general worker of the year.

Detective Sgt Frans Strydom, who is currently in hospital, was the runner-up for being the best detective member of the year.

Sgt Dineo Badi received a certificate for runner-up as the best crime information analysis (Cimac) member of the year.

Brig Thembeka Gwebushe was the runner-up for the best station commander of the year.

Springs CPF chairman Mike du Toit received one of eight awards given to CPFs within the cluster.

SAPS Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Deliwe de Lange encouraged the members to stand together against crime.

“I am extremely proud of the Ekurhuleni Cluster and how its members stay focused in their fight against crime,” de Lange says.

“Gauteng will not tolerate crime.”

She urged all members to be motivated and to work hard so that they can also win awards for outstanding work done.

“Continue to work hard and we will bear the fruit.”
