Springs SAPS nab man for possession of explosives

SAPS Explosives Unit was called to the scene where explosives were found.

A 26-year-old man has been apprehended in Swartberg Street, Eastvale after being found in possession of explosives.

On Wednesday (December 13), a police sector vehicle was on routine patrol at about noon when they noticed a man walking in the street with a schoolbag.

According to Springs police spokesperson, Capt Johannes Ramphora, they approached the man and requested to search the bag.

“We found two explosives detonators, one cortex and one gel explosive in the bag,” says Ramphora.

The man was immediately arrested and taken to the police cells.

The SAPS Explosives Unit was called to the scene, and a case docket of illegal possession of explosives was opened for further investigation.

Springs station commander Brig Thembeka Gwebushe applauded the members for their dedication to combating crime in the precinct by intensifying their stop-and-search operations as instructed.

The suspect will appear in court soon.
