Local business accused of animal slaughter.
A local business in the Selection Park industrial area has been accused of allegedly slaughtering animals on its premises.
The businesses surrounding the business noticed what was happening after seeing blood and animal tissue in their drains.

“At first I thought it was paint because it was just red and there was no smell.
“The second time it happened, I looked closely and noticed there was animal tissue in there,” says Michelle Pike who works nearby.
“I saw a lady carrying a container that had what looked like the intestines of a cow.
The business in question shares a drain with other businesses.
Apparently, this slaughtering has been happening for two weeks and business are concerned about the health of their employees and if the business in question has the permission to do this.
The public health by-laws only make provision for private slaughtering for religious and ceremonial purposes.

All other slaughterings must take place at an approved abattoir.
Springs SPCA manager Celeste Kleyn says people who want to slaughter animals should get permission in writing from the metro.
This should be done at least 14 days prior to the event.
“We may not stop anybody from slaughtering an animal but we can intervene if it is not done correctly.
“Only abattoirs can slaughter animals for income and they should be registered as such,” says Kleyn.
The business in question did not respond in time for publishing.
