A security guard was overpowered during a robbery in New Era on March 9 around 10pm.
The security guard was approached by two suspects during his shift, one of them armed with a firearm.
Capt Johannes Ramphora, spokesperson for the Springs police says the armed suspect cocked his firearm, pointed it at the security guard and told him to ‘voetsek’.

“The guard dropped his panic button in the process.”
One of the suspects took the guard’s bloodhound and did patrols while the other suspect was pointing his firearm at the guard.
Two more suspects joined them and both of them were armed with firearms.

“The suspects climbed to the top of the building and broke the window.
“The alarm went off and they took the security guard to the railway.”
A security company allegedly responded to the alarm, but Ramphora says they only hooted at the gate and drove away.
The suspects carried unknown items out of the shop and only left the scene after 3.30am.
A case of business robbery was opened at the Springs Police Station.
