Hijacking on Tonk Meter Road

Two men were hijacked by four suspects just after noon after they pulled over so one of the men could relieve themselves on Tonk Meter Road.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, the spokesperson for the Springs police, says the men were driving in a Nissan bakkie when they pulled over.

“The passenger got out of the vehicle to relieve himself in the bushes when four suspects grabbed him,” he says.

When the driver of the vehicle attempted to help, one of the suspects pointed a firearm at him.

“Two of the suspects forced the driver to move as one suspect climbed in behind the wheel.”

The two other suspects took the passenger to the back of the bakkie and drove off.

They dumped the two men in an open field next to the N17 highway after they tied them up with wires.

The suspects took both the victims’ cellphones, the driver’s driver’s licence, R2 670 in cash, jackets and tekkies.

Two suspects drove away with the vehicle while the other two suspects stayed with the victims for about an hour and a half before leaving.

After the victims received help, the bakkie was recovered by the EMPD who followed the suspects in the direction they drove.

No suspects were arrested.
