Eid ul Fitr celebrations in Bakerton
Scores of Muslims around the world celebrated Eid ul Fitr on June 15.
Eid ul Fitr is the religious holiday following fasting during the holy month of Ramadan.
The holy month is a time for reflection, to draw closer to the All-Mighty and to count one’s blessings, while fasting teaches empathy for those less fortunate.
The celebratory holiday is a wonderful atmosphere in many towns across the globe with people offering prayers, spending time with their loved ones, enjoying festive meals and giving to charity.

It was common practice of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for worshippers in a specific area to gather in an open field for the special morning Eid prayer, rather than praying in separate mosques.
In Springs, about 4 000 locals and men from neighbouring towns gathered at the Springs Muslim School grounds in Bakerton in a special display of unity and brotherhood. This is the largest number of Muslim faithfuls gathering for the Eid prayer to date at the school.

Many Muslims, especially foreign nationals, celebrate the day away from close family and friends.

This year, approximately 600 people were served.
