DA ward councillors unhappy about the metro not collecting rubbish

Residents in Springs are frustrated with the metro not collecting their rubbish despite them paying for the service every month.
In some areas, the rubbish has not been collected in three weeks and is attracting cockroaches and mice.
Most infuriatingly, there has been no communication from the metro for the reason behind the delay or when the metro will come to collect the rubbish.
As a result, residents have resorted to taking out their bins every day.
Inside sources told us that only four of the 10 trucks are operating because the others are in the workshop for repairs.
Some have minor issues such as punctures but the workshop takes forever to repair them.
Issues like these are contributing to the continuing backlogs in waste collection.

The Springs DA councillors have released a statement saying they are very unhappy with the waste collections service delivery around the Springs area.
“Bakerton, Strubenvale and Payneville have not been serviced for 14 days.
“Residents are frustrated and we cannot blame them.
“This is an essential and basic service and this is not acceptable, as rotting refuse attracts rodents, flies and diseases, is a health hazard and it stinks.
“Each resident has one refuse bin where are they expected to keep the other refuse after it is full?
“Leaving the bins outside indefinitely are attracting thieves who just dump the rubbish anywhere and steal bins and to obtain a replacement bin is a huge mission,” says ward councillors Dean Stone, Ramesh Sheodin, and Lorna Beharie.

In the Whatsapp group between the ward councillors and management from the waste department, there was no response to the councillors’ request for clarity on the issue or when it would be resolved.
The only thing that was confirmed is that the metro would collect the extra bags of rubbish that have collected over the past few weeks.
The metro failed to respond to The Addie’s query about the issue.
