Digby and The Lullaby take you back to days gone by in Selcourt

Listening to this talented duo, who are also husband and wife, takes you back to a time when music was pure and authentic.

‘Mesmerising’ and ‘enchanting’ are just two of the adjectives that can be used to describe Digby and The Lullaby.

The talented Roochi and Darren Peens put on quite the show under the stars in Selcourt on Sunday evening.

The small, intimate setting proved to be the best way to listen to the folksy pair, who hail from St Francis Bay.

The Sound of the MusicALS

Listening to this talented duo, who are also husband and wife, takes you back to a time when music was pure and authentic.

There’s no Auto-Tune with this pair, just Roochi’s beautiful voice accompanied by the keyboard or by Darren playing the guitar.

In a way, it’s frustrating hearing them play.

You hear one song and think it’s the best one, then you hear their next and you’re convinced that’s your favourite until they sing the next one and the process starts all over again.

Their music, which can be categorised as folk music, is inspired by their life experiences, and that authenticity comes through in the passion they have for one another and their craft.

Describing themselves as content and happy, they held the audience in the palm of their hand.

They had quite the time trying to end their show because the audience kept on requesting just one more song.

Although this writer doesn’t have the most musical of ears, even I can tell they are going to be big one day.

Their debut album, The Somewhere Wind, was released three years ago and since then the couple, along with their baby, have been touring the country and wowing audiences wherever they go.

Their single, Magnificent, has slowly been picked up by radio stations across the country.

Roochi says the song is about how God is magnificent even when we get it wrong.

I can tell you this much – they definitely got it right with their music.

A short clip of them performing Magnificent can be found on The Addie’s website.
