Sector One meets with police at Laerskool Werda
Springs police station commander Brig Thembeka Gwebushe says the police are not there as a favour to the community, but because it is their responsibility to serve people.
Sector One residents met with the Springs police at Laerskool Werda last Saturday morning.
Sector One is made up of the the Springs CBD, Lodeyko and the Little Hollywood informal settlement.
Sector One leader Sgt Frank Modise described the sector as a family and says one of the goals of the meeting was to strengthen ties between the police, the CPF and the community.
“As a community, we have to work hand in hand with the police,” says Modise.
Springs police station commander Brig Thembeka Gwebushe says the police are not there as a favour to the community, but because it is their responsibility to serve people.
“If you cannot get to the police station, the sector vehicle will come to you and a case docket will be opened on the spot.
“If the sector vehicle is busy, another sector vehicle must come and assist,” says Gwebushe.
Talking about the problems in the sector, Modise says smash-and-grabs in the CBD are on the decrease, which he attributed to motorists not having valuable goods on display.
“There are two crime prevention teams that have been put in place in the CBD, and over the past month, 22 suspects have been arrested on drug-related charges.

“Business robbery is also on the decrease.
“You must be alert when walking, criminals are always watching, waiting to make you their victim,” says Modise.
Modise says residents must call the police if they feel unsafe or suspect something is wrong.
CPF chairperson Barend van Heerden urged CPF members and the community to put their safety first when on patrol or if they spot a crime in progress.
“Don’t confront the suspects, observe what they are doing, if possible take pictures and call the sector vehicle,” says van Heerden.
