Sector Two residents meet with police
“Don’t complain about crime if you don’t report it,” says Nel.

Sector Two residents met with Springs Police on Thursday evening at Selpark Primary School to discuss issues affecting the community
Sector Two includes residents in areas such as Selection Park, Selcourt, Edelweiss, Struisbult and Daggafontein.
The meeting started with a brief explanation of the Community Policing Forum (CPF), it’s formation, rules and the work they do in the area by Advocate Kobus Lowies.
At present there are approxiamtely 830 members in Sector Two’s CPF.
Hansie van Heerden, Sector Two chairman, emphasised the importance of the CPF and the community working together.
“We are partners, so nobody must have the seagull approach,” says van Heerden.
One of the biggest issues facing the sector is residents don’t report crime.

Springs Police sector leader Capt Jan Nel urged residents to report crime as it has a direct impact on how police do their job.
“When we do our crime pattern analysis, we can map out the problem areas and assign police to those areas.
“We currently have one vehicle per sector, and if there are no incidents, police will patrol the hotspot areas.
“Don’t complain about crime if you don’t report it,” says Nel.
Burglary in residential areas remains a problem in Sector Two, as well as illegal dumping.
Residents were urged to get evidence and hand it in alongside their complaint so offenders can be fined.
Those who have had their dogs poisoned must open a malicious damage to property case.
As Nel explained, dog poisonings usually precede a house break-in either at your property or your neighbours.
To report a crime, or if you are in need of police assistance, contact 10111 and get a reference number.
Alternatively, call 112 from your cellphone and ask to be put through to the police.

The police are supposed to respond within 20 minutes of your call.
From there, the police can track how long it takes to react to reach the complainant and give feedback to the station regarding the incident.
For drunk drivers, residents are to call the EMPD, not the police on 011 999 8429 or 063 096 8326.
Residents from all sectors were invited to attend the broader forum meeting at the Springs Police Station on August 15 at 6.30pm.
