Vlei Road in a terrible state

“If the bus driver drives over those slabs he can lose control of the bus,” says Maurizi.

Residents living on Vlei Road in Grootvaly are frustrated by the condition of the road.

The road is not tarred and one section is particularly perilous as concrete slabs have been put down.

This was originally done to make the road smoother, but the slabs have now become loose, rendering that piece of road impossible to drive on.

This section is in such a bad condition that drivers either have to drive around it or risk damaging their tyres and chassis.

A bus travels up this road every day from Brakpan and resident Vic Maurizi says he is concerned about the safety of the passengers.

“The bus comes up the road every morning at around 7am when it is still dark, and this makes it very dangerous.

“If the bus driver drives over those slabs he can lose control of the bus,” says Maurizi.

In addition, the road is regularly graded, causing the level of the road to become lower and lower.

As a result, Maurizi and other residents have difficulty driving up their driveways and have had to find other ways to access their property.

Maurizi had some old tar thrown in front of his driveway, making it more level with the road.

Another resident was forced to move his driveway further down the road to avoid damaging his vehicle.
