Modderbee Correctional Services Area Management celebrates Women’s Day

One of the main lessons Bam shared was women in the workforce should always be prepared to learn.

Modderbee Correctional Services Area Management closed off Women’s Month in style as they celebrated Women’s Day at the Modderbee Mess Hall on Friday.

Staff and guests were dressed to impress and stuck to the dress code, which was ‘Hats and Stilettos’, and put their best foot forward in the event themed ‘Modderbee women climbing the corporate ladder’.

Alongside the impressive guest speakers, attendees were treated to a fashion parade and make-up artists were on standby to make sure the ladies looked their best.

Dietician Mpho Mkhawana urged women to look after themselves as when they get busy they tend to neglect themselves.

“When you look after yourself you can look after others better.

“Food either has the power to nourish you or destroy you,” says Mkhawana.

One of the guest speakers Nelly Mavimbela emphasised that women should strive for balance while climbing the corporate ladder.

“Some women end up neglecting their children and spouses because they are so focused on making money.

“Also, it’s important to find God’s purpose for you as being in the corporate world may not be what is meant for you no matter how much you want it,” says Mavimbela.

The main speaker of the day was Gwen Bam, who has worked at a big mining company for the past 35 years.

Bam shared the knowledge she has gained over the years climbing the corporate ladder, which she said was not easy.

One of the main lessons Bam shared was women in the workforce should always be prepared to learn.

“Don’t get comfortable. Be multi-skilled and the little things will take you to the next level.

“Accountability is important. Be punctual, surround yourself with people who will build you.

“Remain humble and build lasting relationships in the field. Be a mentor as you cannot be a manager without having mentored anybody.

“Nobody is successful alone,” says Bam.
