Donors turned up in their numbers to donate blood during the South African National Blood Services (SANBS) blood drive on Saturday morning at the Springs Mall.
The drive, which was only for the day, was because the blood service is currently experiencing a shortage of blood.
At the beginning of this week, the SANBS only had enough blood for five days, with AB- at critical levels.

Donors such as Linda Bester and Sonja Swanepoel were eager to do their part to help someone in need.
Lloyd Lill says he has been donating blood for the past 40 years and believes it is good for him to do it.
“People need blood to stay alive and you can save a life by donating blood,” says Lill.

Due to people like Lill, Bester and Swanepoel, the blood drive was a complete success, with the SANBS collecting 61 units of blood.
“We haven’t been doing so well and last week faced a critical shortage of blood.
“We also wanted to create awareness around blood donation,” says Juliana Visser, supervisor at the Springs Mall SANBS.
