Body of murdered man found in Springs

The Springs police made a grisly discovery when a man alerted them to a foot sticking out of the ground.

The body of a man, who is believed to have been murdered, was found in an open veld between Witpoort and Thema roads in Fulcrum, Springs on Thursday.

According to Springs police spokesperson Capt Jahannes Ramphora, “On April 16 at about 2.30pm the police were called by a member of the public to inform them he had found a person’s foot in a shallow pit while passing an abandoned building on his way to fish at a dam next to that building.

“There were flies buzzing around the pit and he decided to go and see what had attracted them.”

Ramphora says the body, attached to the foot, was covered with concrete, bricks, stones, wood and a red car seat.

The search and rescue team lead by W/O Bann attended the scene and removed the body from the pit.

The body was that of African male and had no head.

“It was decapitated and the body was in a state of decomposition.

“The thumb and pointer finger from both hands were cut off and the head and these fingers were not recovered on the scene,” Ramphora says.

The unidentifiable man was wearing a black T-shirt with “Process Division Western Platinum” written across it.

The deceased is believed to be in his late 20s and had a tattoo of a firearm on his inner right arm.

There was a second tattoo, on his chest, of a cross.

The motive for the murder is unknown and no information is available with regard to the deceased.
