Trench to be closed upon completion of pipe repairs

Trench in road caused by pipe repairs

A trench in Ermelo Road into which a motorist recently crashed was, according to the City of Ekurhuleni, barricaded with chevron tape.
It was reported in the Advertiser’s November 12 edition, Heavy rainfall creates ditch on Ermelo Road, how Giovanni D’Arrigo crashed his car into a large ditch after massive amounts of rain flooded the road.

D’Arrigo alleged the ditch was created by workers working on an electric cable, and the rain had deepened and widened the ditch.
“The trench was opened to fix the leak and was accordingly barricaded with a chevron tape.
“While this trench is shallow, there’s no sign that a car fell into this trench upon investigation.

“Work was done to repair a leaking water pipe and we are currently awaiting material to complete the work.
“The old steel pipe will be replaced by a plastic (PVC) pipe,” said Ekurhuleni divisional head of communication and media relations Nhlanhla Cebekhulu.
