Illegal dumping site an eyesore for residents

Residents said they now have mice in their houses as a result of the litter.

This illegal dumping site on the corner of Ninth Street and Sixth Avenue in the Springs CBD is a problem residents are keen to see the back of. Despite efforts by residents to keep the area clean, the problem persists, attracting mice, ants and cockroaches. These pests then spread to neighbouring properties. Residents are appealing for harsher fines to be imposed on perpetrators.

The site is full of all sorts of discarded rubbish, including a mattress.

Peter Pitsiladis said people don’t care anymore and when he has come across people dumping rubbish and warned them not to do it, they carry on regardless of his warning. He added the City of Ekurhuleni has cleaned the area before and there is a ‘No Dumping’ sign on the premises but people continue to litter.
