Ten drunk drivers arrested over the weekend

Three of the 10 drivers were arrested in Springs on Sunday.

It was a busy weekend for EMPD officers as they held crime prevention operations in the Springs, Katlehong, Germiston and Thembisa areas.
“The EMPD Drug Enforcement and Public Order Policing Unit members arrested 10 male lawbreakers, while narcotics were also confiscated.
“At approximately 1pm on Saturday in Katlehong, EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit officers patrolling in Likole section stopped and searched a suspicious 49-year-old on Second Avenue.
“Officers uncovered 15 ziplock bags of crystal meth and 57 ziplock bags of khat valued at R15 900, and R70 cash,” said EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng.
The handcuffed suspect, facing charges of possession of and possible dealing in an illicit substance, was marched to the Katlehong Police Station.

On Sunday between midnight and 6am in Springs, Germiston and Thembisa, EMPD Public Order Policing Unit members stopped suspicious drivers, conducted sobriety tests using portable breathalysers/alcometers and arrested nine intoxicated motorists.
In the Springs area, three intoxicated motorists were nabbed along 13th Street by Seventh Avenue and in Thembisa, three were arrested.
In Germiston, three drivers who had one too many drinks were apprehended on Meyer Street.
Charges of driving while under the influence of alcohol were registered against the nine lawbreakers at the Springs, Germiston and Thembisa police stations.

All 10 are expected to appear in the relevant magistrate’s courts soon.
During the operations, all Covid-19 guidelines were followed.
