School learners found with dagga and knives
The K-9 Unit dogs were deployed to sniff out any potential contraband.
SAPS and the EMPD K-9 Unit conducted a drug search operation at Springs Technical School on Thursday morning.
School principal Marius Smit and other school staff members contacted the police and the K-9 Unit after concerns about the learner’s safety and their possible vulnerability to drug use.
“There’s a street just behind the school where there is a lot of drug dealing, and we don’t want our students to fall into that trap.

“We want them to be as safe as possible so we called the police here today as a lesson for our students,” said Smit.
The officers went from one classroom to another and ordered the learners to line up against a wall where they were frisked.
Their bags were also thoroughly searched with every book being checked in case anything was concealed.
The K-9 Unit dogs were also deployed to sniff out any potential contraband.

Some learners were caught with matches, lighters, small bags of dagga, vaping oil, CBD oil and rolling papers.
A few learners were found in possession of knives.
One learner was caught with a sunglasses pouch containing five dagga joints, which he was reportedly planning to sell to his fellow learners, while another was caught selling cupcakes laced with dagga.

“These students are throwing away their future. The one boy is in matric and is wasting his potential to succeed in life,” said Sgt Kgomotso Ralesenyeho of the SAPD.
The evidence was collected in a bag and the guilty learners were tested for drugs.
They will be dealt with accordingly by the Department of Education.
