CPF meeting focuses on the elderly

“This is a good community and we must encourage people to look after themselves,” said Simelane.

The Wright Park CPF held its annual Qhubeka Phambili Development meeting on Thursday afternoon, which aimed to help elderly residents in the area.

The meeting discussed the committee’s finances, donations and members from the Reedville Clinic offering their services to the community.

Ward councillor Thulani Simelane was at the meeting and expressed the importance of senior citizens taking care of themselves.

“Many senior citizens focus on their children and grandchildren and want the best for them, but sometimes forget about themselves.

“This is a good community and we must encourage people to look after themselves,” said Simelane.

Some of the younger residents volunteered to open up an exercise base in Wright Park, where they will invite elderly residents to exercise.

Nurses from the Reedville Clinic explained they will be offering home visits to check for conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and HIV.

“We will visit the homes and check up on our seniors, then we will report back to the clinic,” said Lerato Mofokeng from the clinic.
