Power woes for handful of Selection Park residents

Another resident, Mindy Harvey, believes she was electrocuted during a power cut.

Residents of four homes on Lynch Road in Selection Park claim the municipality has served them a raw deal for months.

“In November we experienced a power outage, which was reported.

“Following that, the metro sent workers to install temporary cables which would restore the electricity.

“The cables were left exposed above the ground in our yards,” explained Lelani Delport, one of the affected residents.

They believe the exposed cables pose a danger to themselves, their children and their pets.

They also allege their homes continue to experience blackouts.

“The last time we were left with no electricity was on May 19, and the lights only came back on the next morning,” added Delport.

Another resident, Mindy Harvey, believes she was electrocuted during a power cut.

“I was in the shower and felt a tingling sensation coming up my leg.

“When I touched the tap, I felt a shock,” she said.

Another resident claimed her electricity was not restored at the same time as that of her neighbours.

In another house, a pensioner has not been able to move freely in her yard because of the trenches left by the workers.

“We just want to understand what the problem is and when it will be resolved.

“We have all tried to communicate with the metro, but we aren’t getting the answers we need from them,” said Delport.

While the City of Ekurhuleni has not yet responded to the Advertiser’s inquiries, power has since been restored to the affected homes.
The temporary cabling has also been removed.
Comment from the City will be published once it has been received.
