Hats galore at Jesus is Light Church

The contest has been running for the past four years; there were 12 participants who entered this year.

The Senior Citizen Group from the Jesus is Light Church held their annual hat competition last Saturday in Eastvale.
Participants had free reign as to the hat’s design and decoration, as there was no set theme for the contest.

Bets van der Merwe and Henriette de Beer were an eye-catching pair with their fabulous hats.

Most of the participants went with a spring theme and decorated their hats with flowers.
Louise Oberholster said this year’s competition was a little different from previous years.

“This was the first time we’ve had a function all year.
“Because of Covid-19, some of our members were not able to join us and others, Ansie Stevens, Ella Badenhorst, Valerie Jansen, Anna and Fanie Cornelius have died.

Piet and Marie Joubert won the category of best couple of the day.

“We haven’t been able to fund-raise as usual, but Pick n Pay Springsgate donated the meat for today and church members also donated to us.
“We’re very thankful to be together again,” said Oberholster.
